POND - LAKE - FOUNTAIN:
The design and installation of either a Pond, Lake, or Fountain should be done by someone with adequate experience. Quality parts for the installation of these features can sometimes only be purchased by contractors with an appopriate license. I have repeatedly received calls from unhappy customers that have sought a solution to mend their leaking or incorrectly operating pond, lake, or fountain. Unforutanely, there are no easy fixes for a water feature that leaks, short of replacing it with a new one.
Sometimes clients are interested in having fish in their pond, lake, or fountain; however, if copper pumps or fittings are used this can have a pernicious influence on the health of the fountain!s fish. Koi are especially vulnerable to incorrect installations of ponds or lakes. For Koi, the water must be deep and clean. Sufficient depth allows the Koi room to escape from predators, and provides a cool setting in which Koi thrive in. Koi from centuries of inbreeding for personalities or color have become vulnerable to disease, therefore, the necessity of a sand filter is critical to keep the water of a pond or lake clean and free of sediment.
Fountains have special design requirments that, when installed correctly, can provide a wonderful sense relief from the heat or from objectionalbe noise. The correct glue, basket strainers, and correct volume of water are necessary for allowing the fountain to work to its optimum capacity. Also, the need for check valves to allow ease of maintenance and butterfly valves to adjust the flow of water so the fountain may work to it!s optimum level are also required. The understanding of these parts, as well as where these items can be purchased, is not information available to everyone.
Please, the difference in cost may be less than you think when you add the necessity of correcting a leak or having your water feature operate incorrectly. Don!t take chances with your pond - lake or fountain, call Alder Landscape Architecture today!
